Let’s look at the most common mineral in the human body.  85% of the total mineral is calcium.  There’s 147 different diseases you can get from a calcium deficiency.  We’ll just go over the top 10 when it comes to the number of people affected and the amount of money involved. 

  • Osteoporosis:

Let’s look at Osteoporosis, the number 10 killer of adults in the United States.  Remember, 75% of those over the age of 65 who fracture a hip or leg bone don’t live 90 days.  Also, it’s the most horrible disease when it comes to human misery and dollars expended.  Osteoporosis.  Think of the special vans, and the lift gates, and the ramps and the elevators, the special plumbing in homes and public buildings.  Special parking places, wheelchairs and walkers and canes.  Think of the beds and the chairs with little electric motors to lift you up when you can’t stand up by yourself.  Physical therapists, joint replacement surgery, pharmaceuticals, doctor’s visits.  We’re talking billions and billions of dollars for nothing more than a calcium deficiency disease.  Now as horrible a disease as Osteoporosis is, in human beings, we don’t have Osteoporosis in animals because we don’t have Blue Cross, Blue Shield, major medical hospitalization, Medicare and Medicaid to pay for non-essential surgical treatments for mineral deficiency, we’ve learned that by putting animals who are weaned off their mother’s milk onto 10 cents of calcium as soon as they are weaned, they won’t get arthritis or Osteoporosis.  It’s amazing how that works. 

  • Receding gums:

Dentists and dental hygienists will tell you to floss and brush after every meal.  If you believe that works I have some ocean-front property in Montana to sell you.  If you have receding gums or periodontitis, gingivitis, pyorrhea, loose teeth, bridges and plates, you have Osteoporosis in the facial bones and jaw bones.  We don’t get receding gums in animals even though they don’t floss or brush, and that’s because we have cured the Osteoporosis problem in animals. 

·        Arthritis:

85% of all arthritis is called wear and tear arthritis.  Osteo arthritis, degenerative arthritis, ankleospinalitis(?).  These things are nothing more than Osteoporosis of the joint ends of the bones. 

·        Hypertension/High Blood Pressure:

As you learned, has nothing to do with salt, or salt restriction.  85% of hypertension not related to kidney disease, which is most of them, not related to kidney disease, is, in fact, a calcium deficiency. 

·        Insomnia:

Is not a deficiency of sleeping pills, halcyon or barbiturates, it’s a deficiency of calcium.

·        Kidney stones/bone spurs/heel spurs/calcium deposits:

Again, the medical profession has the malignant dumb belief that these things are due to too much calcium in your diet, try to give up calcium.  When, in fact, you only get kidney stones/bone spurs/heel spurs and calcium deposits when you have raging osteoporosis.  You actually need more calcium, more magnesium, not less. 

·        Cramps and twitches:

You have a calcium deficiency.

·        PMS:

The University of California, San Diego, 8 years ago now, came out and said that 85% o the emotional and physical stuff of PMS can be relieved, eliminated and cured by taking 3 times the RDA of calcium.

·        Low back pain:

Has nothing to do with disk problems.  I know you have heard of people, maybe even yourself who have had disk surgery for back pain, and after the surgery still had the pain, maybe even worse.  Because back pain is not caused by disk problems.  If you have a disk problem, you can have numbness and tingling, maybe even paralysis if it’s very severe, but disk problems do not cause pain.  If you have low back pain, the odds are you have cramps and spasms in the large muscle group, inside and outside your lower back.  These can sublexate(?), or hit the line in your vertebrae and be uncomfortable, cause a lot of pain.  You also have bone spurs, calcium deposits, arthritis, osteoporosis.  These are the things that cause low back pain.  Now you’re educated, you’re never going to say “Doc, you’re the doctor”, because you’ve gone through this lecture tonight, and unfortunately most Americans have not heard this lecture yet, and as a result, they will spend between $25,000 and $250,000 and voluntarily undergo 5 to 10 surgical procedures for nothing more than the top ten calcium deficiencies.  In any other industry that would be fraud and they would be shut down.  Something you can fix for 25 cents and you walk out with a $5,000 bill, you would be ticked off.  You would want to talk to the manager.  You would want your money back.  You would call the Better Business Bureau.  You would call the State Attorney General.  You’d complain.  Class action suit.  It would be a big mess.  But the medical profession, everybody just runs to the government and says we need more money to pay for it.  Kind of fascinating.

Calcium Comparison:

A calcium ``salt'' contains calcium along with another substance, such as carbonate or gluconate. Some calcium salts have more calcium (elemental calcium) than others. For example, the amount of calcium in calcium carbonate is greater than that in calcium gluconate. To give you an idea of how different calcium supplements vary in calcium content, the following chart explains how many tablets of each type of supplement will provide 1000 milligrams of elemental calcium. When you look for a calcium supplement, be sure the number of milligrams on the label refers to the amount of elemental calcium, and not to the strength of each tablet.

There’s 3 types of minerals that you have to concern yourself with, and I talk about minerals instead of vitamins because two thirds of the essential nutrients, 60 out of 90, are minerals. Everybody knows everything there is to know about vitamins, and so we are talking about minerals today.

First of all, there’s metallic minerals. These are things like oyster shell, egg shell, limestone, coral calcium, sea bed minerals, clays of various types, Tums is a popular one with doctors, lactates, gluconates, citrates, oxides, sulfates, carbonates. These are nothing but ground up rocks. Animals and human beings are only able to get 8 to 12% of these minerals. We are not designed to eat ground up rocks as a source of minerals. When you hit 40 or 50 years of age, have you ever wondered why people suddenly fall apart when they hit the big 50. People dread turning 50 for that reason. The back goes, their teeth get loose, whatever hair you’ve got left is gray, no interest in sex. You just kind of fall apart. That’s because your ability to absorb these elemental minerals drop precipitously to 3 - 5%.

Now, about 4 years ago in Grand Rapids, Mich., a guy jumps up in the back of the room and says “Hey, Doc, now I know what I see in my port-a-potty business. I said “What on earth do you see in your port-a-potty business?” He said, “Well, when we clean those things out and disinfect them to reuse them, we find hundreds and hundreds of vitamins that come through people”. I said, “Come on, how do you know they are vitamin pills? They could be anything.” He said “Oh that’s easy, Doc, on the coating they say Theragram M, One-a-Day, Centrum and Centrum Silver.”

Now a lot of my patients say, “Look, Doc, I have been taking 2000mg calcium everyday for 20 years, cause I knew it was good for me, yet I still have hypertension, insomnia, loose teeth, receding gums, low back problems, bone spurs, kidney stones, arthritis, osteoporosis, all the stuff you say I shouldn’t have. I’ve been taking 2000mg calcium everyday”. I said “Well what kind do you take?” He said “I take calcium gluconate, calcium citrate, calcium lactate, oyster shell, eggshell, I take things like Tums.” I said “Well, there’s your problem. If you take 1000mg calcium lactate, for example, you’re not getting 1000mg of calcium, cause 86%, 860mg is lactose, or milk sugar. Only 14%, or 140mg is metallic or elemental calcium, and let’s use 10% for usability factors, a fair number, plus it’s easy math, 10% of 140mg is 14. So if you take 2 of those calcium lactate tablets, each 1000mg, you’re not getting 2,000mg of calcium, you’re getting 2 times 14, or 28 mg. To get 2000mg of calcium from these 1000mg calcium lactate tablets, you would have to take 30 of those with each meal. Almost a full 100 tablet bottle of these calcium lactate tablets a day. And of course, at $5 a bottle for the cheapest one, you’re looking at $150 per month just for calcium. You’ve 59 more minerals to go, 16 vitamins, 12 essential amino acids, 3 essential fatty acids, so this is not an economical way to get your nutrients as elemental minerals. Also, if you took in 90 tablets of anything a day, you’re going to develop what we call B&F disease. B&F disease stands for belching and farting. You’re going to sound like an elephant out in the woods with a horrible gastro-intestinal problem. And of course you know you have B&F disease when your spouse has to throw a canary in the bathroom to know if it is safe to go in there.

Now during the 60’s the animal industry came up with what we call chelated minerals. That’s because farmers are not dumb enough to put a dollar in an animals mouth and have $.99 come out in the manure. And so we learned that by adding amino acids, proteins or enzymes to the elemental mineral, it increases absorbability tenfold, from 3-5% to 40%, and everybody got excited about chelated minerals during the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. And if you look at the good multi-vitamin-mineral tablets today, you will see a mixture of elemental and chelated minerals.

But the way that animals and people are designed to consume and absorb minerals is in the plant-derived colloidal mineral form. We are not designed to eat ground up rocks. Nobody can show you where humans or animals are designed to eat ground up rocks. We’re designed to get our minerals by eating plants, grains, vegetables, fruits and nuts, and as a result, plant-derived colloidal minerals are 98% absorbable. Two and a half times more absorbable than chelated, ten times or more absorbable than the elemental or metallic minerals.

Plant-derived colloidal minerals are liquid. They are a very small particle size, 7,000 times smaller than red blood cells. This is the way they are stored in your cells and are moved around in plant vascular systems and human vascular systems, in the liquid plant-derived colloidal form. They are negatively charged. I don’t know all of the physics and the chemistry. It is one of the basic features of a colloidal mineral, it is negatively charged.

These three factors together give you the 98% absorbability. Now the way it’s supposed to be is our food plants, our grains, vegetables, fruits and nuts take the elemental or metallic minerals out of the soil, convert them to colloidal minerals for their own use, for their own metabolism and bio-chemistry, and then animals and people eat these plants that are enriched with minerals. That is how we are designed to get our minerals.

Kidney stones/bone spurs/heel spurs/calcium deposits

Then, of course, there's kidney stones. And then there's bone spurs, heel spurs, and calcium deposits. Again, physicians will tell you the first thing to give up officially is calcium and dairy, because they have this foolish belief, the stupid belief, the ignorant belief that the kidney stones, bone spurs, heel spurs, and calcium deposits come from your diet, when instead it only comes from your bones when you have a raging Osteoporosis. And when you get these things, you need more calcium, not less.

Then, there’s a guy up at the University of California, San Francisco.  This guy wrote several books on longevity, 125 year diet, you can live to be 125 years of age, and he always says that if you eat less you’re going to live longer.  And this came from these old studies of 1947, where they restricted calories, and they took rats and let them eat free choice and they found out how much a rat would eat when you let them eat whatever they wanted.  So then they restricted those calories by 30% and they had another group that restricted the calories by 60% and they came out and said that those rats that had 30% less calories than the original group lived 50% longer, and the ones that had a 60% restriction of calories lived to be twice as old as the ones who got free choice.  And everybody got excited about restricting calories.  But what the original article said back in 1947 was that not only do you restrict calories, but you have to keep vitamins and minerals and trace minerals at the same level, even though you are cutting the calories, you keep the vitamins and minerals and trace minerals at the same level. 

Now what that means is, that even though you had restricted calories, the calories that were there were more nutrient dense.  There’s more minerals, more vitamins, more trace minerals per calorie in the restricted diet, because there was the same amount in the restricted calorie diet of vitamins and minerals and trace minerals as there was in the free choice diet. 

Now when a human being cuts his calories by 60% and they don’t supplement, whatever nutrition might be, by chance, in that food, they are actually restricting their trace minerals and vitamins and minerals.  Well, there was an honest article, in February of this year, eating less may lead to longer life.  Again that theme song they keep singing about, they did this study on Reese’s monkeys, they moved up from rats, and then they said, both groups received the same vitamins and minerals.  And it was just sort of a little afterthought in this article. 


How many of you here have ever heard of a guy by the name of Stewart Berger? He wrote 5 best-selling books on diet, and health and nutrition. He got his degree from Tuft Medical School, which is a very fine medical school in Boston, not too far away from Harvard Medical School. And the books he wrote, "The Southampton Diet for Weight Loss", he wrote "Forever Young," "20 years Younger in 20 weeks", and "How to be your own Nutritionist". And he died at age 40. How would you like to follow his dietary practices? He died at age 40 of cardiomyopathy, which is a Selenium deficiency. The same as white muscle disease, or stiff lamb disease, and any farmer can go to a feed store and get Selenium pellets or Selenium injections, things like Seletok and Bozie. And Dr. Stewart Berger, a fellow who wrote 5 best-selling books on nutrition, died of a nutritional deficiency. He didn't have expensive urine.

You can prevent, totally prevent, cardiomyopathy for ten cents a day. And if we don't do it, we are malignant dumb, I like to call it. Malignant dumb if you don't take in ten cents a day of Selenium. It's a waste of your life. It's one of those landmines that you can avoid.

The medical treatment of choice for cardiomyopathy is a heart transplant, costs $750,000. I want you to think about that. They get the heart free from a donor, they get the blood free for the surgery from the relatives. They use $2.50 of sucher material, and they charge you $750,000 for that procedure. Now 6 months ago in LA when they had the earthquake, they were putting people in jail for 60 and 90 days for price-gouging, for selling these terrified people a gallon of water for $4.00. They put them in jail for price-gouging, for selling them a gallon of water for four bucks. Now to me that's entrepeneurealism. That's being in business for yourself. If you had a way to distill water and make water and you had a car and you could get in there and sell those people a gallon of water for $4, more power to you. Because if you go to a Seven-Eleven and buy a quart of Evian water it's $1.29. So four of those quarts is $5.00. Kind of interesting, isn't it? And they said it was price-gouging because those people were terrified.

Well talk about a person who needs a new heart, they're terrified. $750,000, we should put those doctors in jail. But we bow to them because it is high-tech medicine. Out of 250,000,000 people in America they save about 50 a year. Is that cost-effective? I don't think so. Any rate, Dr. Stewart Berger didn't have expensive urine.

Now here's the last one, and many of you might know this woman. Her name is Dr. Gail Clark. She was aged 47. She was the Chief Cardiologist at W. St. Louis County group of hospitals. She was the Chief Cardiologist for the St. Mary's Health Center in Richmond Heights, in St. Louis County. Guess what she died from? Heart attack. Cardiomyopathy heart attack. You can just see her walking down the hall, she's got the stethoscope around her neck. This is her little status symbol, got my stethoscope around my neck. Back while I was in school they folded it up very bravely and put it in their pocket. Run! She has a heart attack, she falls down right in the hall. And of course the nurses scoop her up and put her on a gurney, and they call the technicians, and another doctor, "Code 3, Code 3, Code Blue", whatever it is. And they whip her into the room, and lets say you are a cardiac patient, you're laying there, you're all hooked up to the monitors and the IV's, and you hear them say, "Okay, get her clothes off. Okay, stand back. Didn't work, turn it up. Stand back. And then you hear that terrible sound when you know that the treatment didn't work. The flat line when you know the heart is gone. And everybody walks out of the room dejected, and you say, "Nurse, nurse, what happened next door?" And she says, "Well, your cardiologist, you know, the Chief Cardiologist for this hospital, aged 47, Dr. Gail Clark, just died of a cardiomyopathy heart attack." You can see all the patients are holding their gowns, and they're running out of that hospital, leaving their watches and their shoes and their checkbooks and their plastic credit cards, cause they don't want to get what Dr. Gail Clark got. (My Mommy sent me that one).

Lastly, on that subject, how many have ever heard of Reggie Lewis? Reggie Lewis was a great athlete, he didn't use four letter words, didn't use drugs. Not a bad word came out of his mouth. In April, 1993, he collapsed on the floor during a game with the San Antonio Spurs, and his diagnosis was cardiomyopathy. Now because he was an athlete and in good shape, he survived that first heart attack. The Boston Celtics paid 12 cardiologists a million dollars each on the front end to save Reggie. Save Reggie, they spent 12 million bucks. They didn't take 20 dollars and send a medical student to the library to find out what are all the causes of cardiomyopathy, they just argued and bickered over who was going to get famous and rich by doing the heart surgery, the transplant, on Reggie. Well, July 28, 1993, Reggie died of his cardiomyopathy. Now here is a 65 million dollar a year athlete, and they paid 12 million dollars for 12 cardiologists to save him. What chance do you think you have, in a hospital where the cardiologist needs a Mercedes payment or has 5 ex-wives to pay. He's not going to give you ten cents a day of Selenium. He wants $750,000. He earned it! He went to medical school for eight years! Well if you believe that's true, then you just go right ahead and get in line. But if you object to that, don't get in line, and take your Selenium.

Well why does this go on? Even though we know that these things are wrong, (we inherently know that), and we know that there's the Truth out there, we see it in the newspaper everyday. Why does it go on? Well there is a five-letter word that's worse than any four letter word, it's M-O-N-E-Y. And I'm not against people making a living or making money. There's nothing wrong with that. But when you injure other people to get it, then there's something wrong with it.

Any rate, this is illustrated by an article that was in the Washington Post, November 2, 1992, and the title of the article is "Lining Doc's Pockets". The first paragraph says, "If you go to your doctor, you want him to think of you as a patient, not a cash cow, but 2 studies in this month's New England Journal of Medicine showed that doctors are out to milk you dry." I couldn't believe that doctors would write that in their own medical journal, so I went to the medical school in San Diego, at La Hoya, and took out those articles out of the library, and sure enough, they were in there, but they were written by two PH.D. hospital directors, administrators.

What they said was, "Hey, it's not paperwork, it's not insurance, it's not all this computer stuff that's running the cost up of healthcare. It's you doctors, because there is a lot of things you can do in your office for $50. But instead, when a person has good insurance, you say to them, "Well, I can't quite tell what's wrong. You've got good insurance, let's check you into the hospital for a week or ten days and run some tests." Well who do you think owns the hospital? The doctor! The doctor does, and so he is referring you in there to make sure those beds are full, and all the overhead is taken care of. Remember, when you pay the doctor bill, where does it go? Well it's gotten so bad that even the Reader's Digest has jumped on the bandwagon. To me the Reader's Digest is a magazine that never says anything negative or bad about anybody or any group. It is the sweetest little magazine that ever was. September,1993, issue features an article that says,"Can you trust your doctor?" It lists 12 ways the doctors scam your money. I'll let you read 11 of them yourself. I'll give you the worst one.

In addition to their income from office fees, and surgical fees, and lab fees, and hospitalization, doctors get a kickback from the labs, and the x-ray labs, and clinics and hospitals, $421 every time they send you in for a Cat scan, or an MRI. And doctors tell you, "Oh we do that because we're practicing defensive medicine. Cause if I miss something, one in ten billion, you're going to sue me. So I do this just to protect myself." Well, if it was just to protect themselves, and you knew them, and they knew you, 90% of the people say, "Ah just skip it Doc," you don't really think it's necessary, let's save the money. But they've got something more than defensive medicine to worry about. They get $421 and a kickback for every time they send you in for an MRI or a Cat scan.

Well, when I practiced for 12 years up in Portland, somebody came to me with a terrible headache, never had one, I just walk up to them and tap them on the sinuses, and if they collapse to their knees, I know they had a sinus headache. "Oh, Doc, why did you do that?" "Well, that's a cheap lab test." If they had blood dripping out of their nose, I would take a $35 x-ray to see if they had a Cancer in there. $35 and a free lab test, as opposed to $421. If I wanted to make that $421, I'd have been a good thief, but I would have gone out and built a chute right into that Cat scan machine, cause I knew how to build chutes, living on a farm, and I'd have gone out in the street and I'd have gotten every homeless person. I'd line them up in those chutes, and I'd say, "I'm going to buy you a $1.50 dinner, I'm a good guy, you just got to go through this chute, go through that tube, and you get your sandwich and your soup." Man, they would be flowing through there. Maybe 100 a day. And I could start adding some things up. It would be a lot of fun. Any rate, the average doctor gets $228,660 a year Cat scan kickbacks. A quarter of a million dollars a year. And any other industry if you'd do that, politicians, lawyers, business men, stock brokers, THEY GET PUT IN JAIL. But doctors, it's okay. Because insurance pays for it. Hilary will pay for it. We don't mind if they steal us blind. It's free.

Carpal Tunnel Symdrome:

(Slipped Tendion Perosis):  is caused by compression of the median nerve in between the tendons of the forearm muscles by a shrinking of the circular wrist ligament that holds everything together.  This compressed nerve causes radiating pain in the palm of the hand and wrist, especially when the underside of the wrist is forcefully tapped with an index finger or a reflex hammer.  Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by a deficiency of arsenic, manganese and choline.  And also can be caused by Hypothyroidism, so check your thyroid.

Treatment includes B-6 at 75 mg t.i.d. zinc at 50 mg t.i.d., plant derived colloidal arsenic, manganese and choline (compare this with the "orthodox" therapy of wrist surgery!  However, Armour Thyroid for my Hypothroidism made mine disappear).)

Back problems/Cartilage/Disc problems:

Q:  My doctor said that my cartilage, I’m a construction worker, he said that my cartilage damage is permanent.  Is there anything that can be done?

A:  First of all, how old are you?  28 years old.  And what do you normally take for fluid replacement when you’re working out in construction?  What do you drink during the day?  Water.  You don’t drink any soft drinks?  Yes I do.  Okay, because normally construction workers drink a couple of litres of Pepsi a day, right?  Yeah, I could probably put down a litre. And the reason why I ask that, is because caffeine from soft drinks, the phosphates in soft drinks, the sugar in soft drinks, the caffeine in iced tea, hot tea, coffee, will, in fact, interfere with the retention of minerals in your bones.  And did you take any minerals or vitamins while you were working in constructions?  I just recently started taking the products.  While you were in construction, prior to the back problems.  A lot of construction workers will tell me, “well, Doc, if it ain’t in the Pepsi, I don’t get it”.  Right?  And so you’re a perfect candidate for the Pig Arthritis formula, plus the EFA.  You need all 90 nutrients, and give up the bad things.  Give up the soft drinks and the iced tea, and the lemonades, give up the fried foods and the margarines, and I can just tell you, with your age, you can honestly expect to see really recognizable results in a very short time, 60 to 90 days.  And it doesn’t matter what the doctor said, if you do the right things, get rid of the bad things, take all 90 essential nutrients, making sure you get that collagen and glucosamine and the chondroitin sulfate, you will repair your vertebrae, you will repair the cartilage, you will repair the disc.

Well, my favorite disease is Arthritis.  The reason why I love Arthritis is that it’s easy to fix.  And when you can fix something as horrible and debilitating and painful and expensive and as miserable as Arthritis, you get kind of excited about this concept of preventing and curing disease with nutrition.  And so I tell people about this arthritis thing all the time.  So let’s have a quick look at arthritis.

Number one, 75-80% of all Americans over the age of 50 get arthritis to one degree or one type or another, and according to the CDC, the Center for Disease Control, 35 to 50 million baby-boomers are going to get arthritis in the next 7 to 10 years and there’s not a single medical treatment designed to treat or fix it.  Aspirin certainly doesn’t fix arthritis, it causes gastric bleeding and death.  Tylenol doesn’t fix arthritis, there’s 50,000 cases of kidney failure each year, 5000 so severe you need a kidney transplant.  Then there’s Ibuprofen, Advil, and Aleve, these things don’t fix arthritis, and they cause liver disease in 2-5% of users including liver sclerosis, even if you don’t drink.  And then there’s metholtrexate(?) and gold shots(?).  These things don’t fix arthritis, they subdue your bone marrow so that you can’t make normal platelets and white blood cells.  Then you have the granddaddy of all medical treatments for arthritis, Prednizone and Cortisone.  They don’t fix arthritis.  They subdue your immune system which leaves you open to diseases far, far more horrible than arthritis, and Prednizone and Cortisone accelerates the loss of minerals from your bone.  Something you don’t want when you have osteoporosis and arthritis. 

When these prescription medications and over-the-counter medications don’t work anymore to relieve pain and inflammation, the only thing left for you medically is joint-replacement surgery.  And I never liked to send my patients in for joint-replacement surgery, cause they never work out well.  In fact, many times you are worse off after the surgery than you were before the surgery. 

The advantage my patients have always had is that I’m a veterinarian as well as a physician.  So I always used to tell my patients “Look, we have all these nutritional formulas designed to prevent and cure disease in animals, including arthritis, and so I tried adapting nutritional arthritis formulas designed to prevent and cure arthritis in pigeons and turkeys, dogs and cats, sheep, pigs, horses, cows, lions, tigers and bears to human use.  It was no surprise to me, it works just as well in humans as it does in animals, because it was designed to prevent and cure arthritis in pigs.  And of course it has some really nifty stuff in it, which I have been telling people to use for 20 years, and I have literally seen tens of thousands of people who have had a regrowth of cartilage, ligaments, tendons, connective tissue, bone foundation, bone matrix.  Doesn’t matter if they are 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, I’ve seen people 97 years old regrow cartilage and bone, even if they had bone to bone arthritis.  If there’s blood supply to that joint and that bone, they will regrow bone and cartilage.

Well, Harvard Medical School goes berserk when you say stuff like that.  “Wallach, you can’t say those things!  And the only thing left when they get bone to bone arthritis is joint-replacement surgery.”  And I would agree with him if the only raw materials you are using is Tylenol and aspirin and Prednizone and Cortisone.  We have learned over 50 years that you can’t regrow cartilage and bones using those things. 

Now one of the basic  things, of course, that the Harvard Medical School jumped on and said “this is so ridiculous that this couldn’t work!”  And so they took 29 arthritis patients who had not responded in any way to heroic medical treatment for arthritis over 15 to 20 years.  They took them off their medication, it wasn’t working anyway, lined them up for joint-replacement surgery, and for 90 days before their surgery they gave them heaping tablespoon of ground up chicken cartilage in their orange juice every morning for 90 days.  They were sort of chuckling in their beer saying “nothing is going to happen”.  Well, here’s what happened.  In 10 days these people had complete relief of pain inflammation that they hadn’t had in 15 to 20 years.  In 30 days they could open up a new pickle jar that had never been opened without pain to the fingers, wrists, elbows and shoulders.  In 90 days 28 of the 29 were clinically cured.  Now this is from the Harvard Medical School and the Boston VA.  That meant that they had complete return, 100% return, of the range of motion, all of the pain and inflammation was gone, in their fingers and toes and hips and knees and neck, and certainly many of them still had knots on their fingers, cause it was only 90 days, and you would think they would call me up, these professors from Harvard Medical School and from the Boston VA, and say “Look, Wallach, we have to apologize to you.  We’ve been bad-mouthing you for 20 years and why don’t you come up to Boston, let’s talk about the whole thing?”  Here’s what they said, “After 3 months it was clear that the drug was beneficial.” 

Chicken cartilage had become a drug in 90 days!  Now why would that happen?  Well, because you can’t patten chicken cartilage, and they convinced the US Patten Office that they were using a drug to do this study, and they actually got a use-patten on chicken cartilage.  And you, too, for $3500 a month, can get Harvard Medical School’s chicken cartilage in a capsule for arthritis.  (You can get it for 30 cents a day… ha, ha).  That’s kind of interesting.  And of course,  cartilage or gelatine, has chondroitin sulfate in it, glucosamine sulfate, collagen, these are all the basic raw materials to rebuild cartilage and bone.  Now again I have been telling my human patients this for 20 years.  They’ve been using gelatine and cartilage for race horses for 100 years for their cartilage and ligaments and joints.  And in 1995, a Luke Bucci, an exercise physiologist came out with a great book called “Pain Free”, and he talks about the advantages of gelatine and cartilage and glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate and collagen for regrowing cartilage, ligaments, tendons, connective tissue, bone foundation, bone matrix, he does this with nutrition.  He does this with glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate and collagen and cartilage and gelatine.  Just a couple of months ago, a medical doctor, Dr. Jason Theodisakus, MD, wrote the “Arthritis Cure”, subtitle “the medical miracle that can halt, reverse and may even can cure osteoarthritis.”



Q:  Cancer seems to be striking everywhere in our population these days.  It seems like the majority of people in their senior life die of cancer.  What in the Pig Arthritis formula or the Youngevity products do we have that we can help people that are in the challenge of cancer?

A:  Well, it’s a great question.  Back at the turn of the century, 1895, 1900, 1 out of 10 Americans developed cancer.  Right now it’s 3 out of 5, and by the year 2050, it’s projected 2 out of 3 people are going to develop cancer in America.  The onset of cancer appears to be directly related to the amount of carcinogens, these are toxic waste, either from agriculture, or from the industrial waste that we find in our air and our food and in our water and in the dust around us.  And the lack of ability to defend against these carcinogens.  And the most common defense mechanism that we have, the one that we have access to in a very economical way, are the anti-oxidants, like Selenium, like the grapeseed extract, like the green tea.  You’re looking at Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Beta-Carotene and avoiding fried food and margarine and things we have control of.  Eating as much organically grown food as possible. 

According to the medical school at the University of Arizona, this came out in JAMA, the journal of the American Medical Association, Dec. 25, 1996, I mean we are talking about a great Christmas gift to the American people,  they did a wonderful study, 10 years, it was a double-blind study, 1300 people, they gave the study group 250mcg, which is one quarter of one milligram, we’re talking an itsy bitsy amount of Selenium.  They just added Selenium alone, didn’t change anything else, and by giving these people 250 mcg. of the trace mineral Selenium, they were able to reduce the risk of esophageal cancer by 71%, prostate cancer by 69%, greater than two thirds, colon and rectal cancer by 64%, almost two thirds, lung cancer was reduced by 48% whether you smoked or not.   In a parallel study from The University of California, San Diego, 250mcg., one quarter of one milligram, reduced the risk of breast cancer by 50-80%, and the same study showed that if you already have cancer, if you take 250mcg. of Selenium everyday, you will, in fact, double the natural history life-expectancy of a particular type of cancer.  For instance, lung cancer, the natural history is about a year.  Brain cancer, is less than a year.  Uterine, ovarian, colon, breast cancer is two to five years. Prostate cancer is two to eight years.  Well just by taking 250 mcg. of Selenium everyday, you can double that life-expectancy just by doing that one thing. 

And so if you take the other anti-oxidants and give up margarines and fried foods and sugar and caffeine and avoid as many of the agricultural waste and toxic waste from the industry that you can, you will be able to avoid an enormous amount of cancer.  And if you already have cancer, doing other things, such as taking shark cartilage and the anti-oxidants, and getting on macrobiotic diets and so forth, you can add many healthful years to your life.  You can certainly have a better quality to your life, and many people will extend their lives in a great way, ten, twenty, thirty, forty years.  Obviously there is no way you can look in somebody’s eyes and say “you’re the one that’s going to live 50 years”, and so people just have to do all the right things and they’re going to get the best that can be gotten from nutrition and the supplements.

Cancer(2) :

When doctors get information on Cancer, you would think they would photocopy that when they send you that bill, instead of threatening you with collection agencies, they should send you some of the photocopies of this stuff. In September, 1993, the National Cancer Institute, not the National Enquirer, and the Harvard Medical School in Boston did a study on Cancer patients, and they came out and said an anti-cancer diet was found. When the National Cancer Institute sent that information to your doctor, he leaned back in his chair, wadded it up and did one of those things, right in the waste can. He's real good at throwing that stuff in there. The only thing he reads is, "Oh, I get gold golf clubs if I sell 20 prescriptions of Prozac per month."

They picked China to do their study, because in one province, Henon Province in China, they have the highest rate of Cancer in the whole world. They took 29,000 people for 5 years in this study, and what they did is give them different vitamins and minerals at double the daily recommended allowance for Americans. Now that's a trivial amount. For instance, they use vitamin C for one group, and the RDA recommended daily allowance for vitamin C is 60 mg, double that to be 120 mg, you can't go into a health food store and get a tablet or capsule for less than 500 mg for an adult. And of course Lynus Pauling, the gentlemen with 2 Nobel Prizes, says if you want to prevent and treat Cancer with vitamin C you have to use 10,000 mg a day. All the doctors who used to argue with him 35 years ago are all dead, and today Lynus Pauling, still 94, works 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, in his ranch in the Big Sur in California, and teaches at the University of California, San Francisco. So you have to make up your choice whether to listen to the dead doctors or Lynus Pauling. Your choice.

Vitamin C, doubled the RDA, nothing happened. Vitamin A, doubled the RDA, nothing happened. Zinc, Riboflavin, the trace mineral Millevdinum, Niacin, nothing happened. In one group they had a major benefit. In this group they got 3 nutrients at one time. They got vitamin E, they got Beta Carotene, and the trace mineral Selenium. Those 3 were double the RDA. (If you get a half percent benefit in any nutritional or pharmaceutical experiment, you have made a major improvement in humanity's life. So these articles get published. I want you to remember that statistic. Half a percent is major benefit). In this group that received the 3 for 5 years, deaths from all causes were reduced 9 percent. Almost 10 out of every hundred, or 1 out of every 10 who were going to die in that 5 years, survived. Then Cancers, all Cancers, 13% survived who would have died without those 3 nutrients. So 13 out of 100 lived who would have died, and then the type of Cancer that was the most prevalent in the Henon Province, stomach and esophageal Cancer, 21% lived who would have died. 21 out of 100 lived!

Now these are significant numbers, and your physician should have sent every one of you a photocopy of that. At least given you the information, even if he didn't want to give you the advice, given you the information and let you make up your own mind.

Now certainly the scariest disease in the United States is cancer.  Everybody is very horrified when you talk about cancer.  People get nervous.  And in my tape “Dead Doctors Don’t Lie” I talked about the anti-cancer diet that was found.  Everybody goes beserko when I say things like that, “No, there’s no such thing as an anti-cancer diet”, and there you see it.  This is a newspaper article, it was actually a news release by the National Cancer Institute.  They did a five year study in Henan Province in China, and they chose to go to Henan Province in China because it had the highest rate of cancer in the whole world.  They took 29,000 normal healthy people, between the ages of 40 and 69, divided them up into small groups, gave each group a different vitamin, different mineral, combinations of vitamins and minerals, to see if any nutrient or combination of nutrients would reduce this horrible rate of cancer in Henon Province.  What they found out was, if you take a single vitamin, don’t expect too much positive to happen.  We’re not too surprised at that.  Lynus Pauling, one of our favorite sons here in California, two Nobel Prizes, took 10,000mg of Vitamin C everyday for 35 years, and still died of prostate cancer at age 93, 7 years short of the magic number of 100.  Well they did find one group that showed significant benefit.  This group, had 20 cents a day worth of 3 nutrients, pitifully low dose, double the American RDA, - Beta Carotene, Vitamin E, and the trace mineral Selenium.  The group showed a reduction in deaths from all causes of 9%.  Suicide, car accidents, things like pneumonia, heart disease, ruptured aneurysms, diabetes and cancer.  It reduced all cancer deaths in this group by 13%, and the type of cancer most common in Henon Province, stomach cancer, and lower esophageal cancer they reduced by 21%.  Saved almost 1 out of 4 that were projected to die from esophageal and stomach cancer.  Just simply from these 3 nutrients, Beta Carotene, Vitamin E, and Selenium.  There was a redo on this by the University of Arizona, and this was published in JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association, Dec. 25, 1996, on Christmas Day, and this should have been the greatest healing and medical story in history.  It did not even make the top 10 Associated Press news stories for 1996.  That’s how biased the medical profession is against nutrition.  This should have been the greatest health story in recorded history.


The University of Arizona Medical School took 1300 people, put them on 250-500mcg Selenium, and for 10 years they looked at them for skin cancer.  And it didn’t help skin cancer, we know that, because Selenium doesn’t work for skin cancer.  Zinc, and Beta Carotene and Vitamin E works for skin cancer.  What they found out serendipitously, they weren’t expecting this, it just sort of popped out of the study, they were able to reduce esophageal cancer by 71%, they were able to reduce prostate cancer by 69% fellows, better than two thirds, they were able to reduce colon and rectal cancer by 64%, almost two thirds, they were able to reduce lung cancer, whether you smoked or not, by 48%, and ladies, in a parallel study from the University of California by the great Dr. Gerhardt Schrauser, he said you can reduce your risk of breast cancer, depending on the type of breast cancer, by 50-85%, by taking 250 to 500 mcg  (of Selenium) everyday.

Q:  I have a son that has grand mall seizures.  Can you recommend anything for that:

A:  Okay, well first of all, was your son born with these grand mall seizures?  Yes, he was.  He was born with it, he has hydrocephalus, cerebropalsy.

Okay, first of all cerebropalsy and hydrocephalus are what’s called a congenital birth defect.  These are caused by nutritional deficiencies during pregnancy.  They can be a Zinc deficiency, Vitamin A deficiency, Copper deficiency, and it has two problems there, and it’s not unusual, because a deficiency of single nutrient can cause as many as 10 different diseases.  So, your son unfortunately has a very common series of events here, and because the epilepsy, the congenital birth disorder is associated with these two congenital birth defects, the odds are the nutrition alone will not put the genii back in the bottle.  And he might have to stay on an anti-seizure medication, such as dilantin or phenobarb forever.  However, the thing that you have to be concerned with is almost all of these anti-seizure medications have a down side in that they deplete their bones and minerals.  It’s not unusual for a 6 yr old or a 10 yr old to get arthritis or osteoporosis, noisy joints, and  twitches and cramps, and loose teeth and receding gums and back problems and all the things that are associated with mineral deficiencies.  So your child is a perfect candidate for the Pig Arthritis formula, simply because he is on dilantin, or another anti-seizure medication.  Very important.

Does he weigh less than 100 pounds?  Yes, he does.  Okay, then I would give him a teaspoon of the Pig Arthritis formula per 20 lbs of body weight , if he weighs 40 lbs. you give him 2 teaspoons twice a day, if he weighs 60 lbs, 3 teaspoons or a tablespoon twice a day, and if he weighs 10 lb, you give him a half a teaspoon.  So it depends what weight category he falls into.  And again, there’s no reason he can’t live to be 100, and usually these youngsters with these types of congenital birth defects die of some nutritional deficiency disease.  And so by giving him all 90 essential nutrients, you will extend his life enormously.

  And it won’t hurt him in any way?

  I love that question.  No, absolutely not.  It won’t hurt him.

Chalazion is the result of plugged "meibomian" glands in the eyelid.  A chalazion is easily confused with a "sty" in the early stages, however, after a few days the swelling and pain disappear leaving a slow growing pea sized "mass" in the lid.

Treatment of chalazions include vitamin A at 300,000 IU per day as beta carotene, zinc at 50 mg t.i.d. and warm poultices of 3% boric acid on the closed lid.  Borac acid ophthalmic ointment may be obtained from the pharmacy without prescription.

Now this is probably the biggest fraud ever perpetuated against the American People.  This cholesterol thing.  Last year Americans were so paranoid about cholesterol they spent 117 billion dollars for cholesterol testing alone, and it did not add 10 seconds to Youngevity.  Now I’ve been telling my human patients for over 20 years to eat two eggs every morning, soft scrambled and buttered, poached, soft-boiled, and eat 72oz. of red meat every month as a source of cholesterol that’s good for you.  And, of course, 98% would just do it.  They would say “Boy, we love Doc Wallach.  He’ll let you eat two eggs for breakfast every morning, 72oz. red meat every month.”  Of course it sounds like a lot, but it’s only a quarter-pounder a day.

But at any rate, there’s always this 2% who are bean counters.  They say “Doc, we love you and respect you, but we read in Cosmopolitan Magazine, or our cardiologist told us that you might as well shoot people in the head as have two eggs every morning for breakfast because of all the cholesterol and heart disease.” 

Well, I’ve been vindicated in this one.  This is a study that was published Nov. 15, 1995.  It was the annual meeting of none other than the American Heart Assoc. in Anaheim, CA., not the National Enquirer, but the American Heart Association.  They finally did the study they should have done 50 years ago.  We did it in animals, so I never believed that cholesterol was the boogey-man that they would have you believe.  They took 141 healthy volunteers with an average blood cholesterol of 227.  Now I get a lot of people come to me and say “Doc, you’ve got to help me find something natural to get my cholesterol down, it’s terribly high and cardiologists want to give you this cholesterol-lowering drugs that will kill you.  Kill your liver and make you blind.”  And I say “Gosh, well how high is your cholesterol?”  And they say “it’s 240”.  Well, the normal blood cholesterol range is between 220 and 270.  So if you have a blood cholesterol of 240 and you get a cardiologist or an internist who is trying to get your blood cholesterol down below 200, you want to find a new doctor.  Don’t buy into that.

At any rate, for six months they had these 141 normal healthy people with an average blood cholesterol of 227, they had them eat 2 eggs every morning for breakfast.  At the end of 6 months they redid their cholesterol, and of course, their cholesterol did go up.  But it went up from 227 to 233.  It went up a whopping 6 points!  Here’s what the American Heart Association said after the six months’ study, at their annual meeting, Anaheim, CA., Nov. 15, 1995:  “We always assume that eggs were bad for you because eggs contain cholesterol.  But it now appears after this simple study that two eggs won’t hurt.”  The American Heart Association.

So, as I tell you to eat two eggs to deal with a particular disease later on, it’s been approved by the American Heart Association, so don’t be shocked.

Cholesterol should really be an essential nutrient, like Calcium, and Vitamin A and Vitamin C, Zinc, and so forth.  You would only make 10% of your daily need.  The other 90% you must get in your diet, and people get real good about restricting red meat, and chicken skin and dairy products, and so it is real easy to get cholesterol out of your life.  And the physicians, the medical profession has created a whole family of diseases that are related to fat deficiency, essential fatty acid deficiencies, cholesterol deficiency, and one of my favorites I’ll share with you.  This particular disease did not exist 40 years ago.  It was not in any medical textbook, it was not in any medical dictionary, it was not taught in any medical course.  It only became a disease entity in the literature in 1979.  Today it’s the number 4 killer of adults over the age of 65, behind cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes.  It’s Alzheimer’s Disease.

CHOLESTEROL (elevated):

Is considered a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.  Elevation of cholesterol above 270 mg per 100 ml of blood is a sign of increasing risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes and liver disease (including gallstones).  There are numerous causes of elevated cholesterol including low fiber diets, elevated vitamin D intake, deficiency of EFA, chromium and vanadium, diets high in refined sugar and flour, liver malfunctions and poor exercise habits.  CAUTION:  Low cholesterol can be equally or more dangerous than elevated cholesterol!  

Treatment for elevated cholesterol includes regular exercise, base line supplement program, one to two heaping tablespoons of oat bran or protein fiber in an eight oz. glass of juice or Vitamin C to bowel tolerance, essential fatty acids at 5 gm t.i.d. niacin at 450 mg b.i.d. as time release tablets, calcium and magnesium at 2,000 mg and 1,000 mg per day, chromium at 75 mcg t.i.d. vanadium, selenium at 100 mcg t.i.d. and herbs to include evening primrose (Oenothera biennis).  A good liver flush can be very useful.

Cholesterol Is Hitting New Lows for Americans:

”Americans are winning the cholesterol war,”  claims a  press release from
Associated Press.  The news is based on a  study which appears in the
Oct. 12 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Comments of the Longevity Institute:

The winners of that war are not the Americans.  The only winners are
pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer that has netted 10 billions in 2004
with its cholesterol lowering statin drug, Lipidor.  The losers are the
Americans that have seen their health deteriorated by the side effect of
the cholesterol lowering drugs.  The losers are the million of Americans
that have lost their dollars to a fallacious product promotion claiming
a higher level of cholesterol is a health hazard, a product promotion so
deceptive it has triggered a class action complaint in the District of

Statins are nothing else than very expensive aspirins.
It is a fact that Aspirin and Statins reduce the occurrence of heart
attack and stroke.  They can do so because heart attack and stroke result
from a chronic (it takes years…) inflammation of the arteries and because
Aspirin and Statins have anti-inflammatory properties.  It is also a fact
that the anti-inflammatory property of Statins is evident with a low
dose of the product, a dosage much lower than what you have to take to
lower your cholesterol.

Taken together, these two facts nullify the claim that a higher level of
cholesterol is a health hazard and causes heart attack and stroke.
Cholesterol is not a weapon of mass destruction and going to war against
it makes no sense.

Why statins will destroy your brain

You may know that cholesterol is needed for your body to produce vitamin D, steroid and sex-hormone production, and for healthy cell membranes. You also may know that statins can lower your cholesterol so far that your body can't make these vital nutrients. But did you know that statins will also impair your cognitive function as you age?

It's true! Your liver isn't the only organ in your body that produces cholesterol. Your brain makes it as well. Cholesterol makes up a large portion of the membranes in your neurons. Since neurons are mostly membranes, a lack of cholesterol might impair their function. I predicted years ago that research would eventually connect low cholesterol to poor memory and overall brain function. And now we have the proof.

Researchers recently performed a study on 1,181 subjects over the age of 64. They found that low levels of cholesterol significantly lower general cognitive abilities. They also found that low cholesterol reduces your brain's processing speed. The authors agreed that lower total cholesterol is a strong marker for predicting lower cognitive function in those over 64.

This should be on the front page of every newspaper in the country. But with Pharma owning the health news that spoon-feeds most Americans, it's buried. But Second Opinion readers know better. You won't let them bamboozle you into dropping your total cholesterol below 170 with drugs.

In fact, unless you have a hereditary disorder of really high cholesterol (over 270), I would be wary about any statin use altogether. The doctors want to cut off the enzyme in your liver that makes cholesterol. With the same enzyme making essential cholesterol in your brain, you might trade "doctor happy" ultra-low cholesterol for a "personally sad" case of cognitive decline.

The University of Arizona Medical School took 1300 people, put them on 250-500mcg Selenium, and for 10 years they looked at them for skin cancer.  And it didn’t help skin cancer, we know that, because Selenium doesn’t work for skin cancer.  Zinc, and Beta Carotene and Vitamin E works for skin cancer.  What they found out serendipitously, they weren’t expecting this, it just sort of popped out of the study, they were able to reduce esophageal cancer by 71%, they were able to reduce prostate cancer by 69% fellows, better than two thirds, they were able to reduce colon and rectal cancer by 64%, almost two thirds, they were able to reduce lung cancer, whether you smoked or not, by 48%, and ladies, in a parallel study from the University of California by the great Dr. Gerhardt Schrauser, he said you can reduce your risk of breast cancer, depending on the type of breast cancer, by 50-85%, by taking 250 to 500 mcg  (of Selenium) everyday.

Q:  Dr. Wallach, I would first of all like to personally salute you for the efforts that you’re making.  I, like so many other people, was vaguely aware of things.  You certainly have got my attention.  I’d like to come back, just for a second, on this copper thing.  Copper, if a person has those visual symptoms, gray hair and that, and decides to supplement and go after it a little bit, is it possible, or what is the maximum that a person can take without, I’ve heard that you can take too much copper?

A:  It’s a great question, because people are concerned about overdosing with vitamins and minerals, including copper, and I’ll answer you two ways, one in a generality, then specifically.

The general answer is that if you look at the medical profession, according for the Center for Disease Control, Harvard Medical School, the US News and World Report, Ralph Nader, Sydney Wolf, Rand Corporation and many many other well respected institutions, they say that doctors kill 150,000 to 300,000 Americans each year in hospitals alone, as a result of medical negligence.  Doctors injure 1.3 million Americans each year in hospitals alone as a result of medical negligence, and doctors infect 2 million Americans alone in hospitals as a result of medical negligence, for a total of 3.5 million casualties inflicted upon the public in hospitals, just as a result of medical negligence.

On the other side of this picture, there’s not a single person who has overdosed on vitamins and minerals and trace minerals, including copper, where they have to be hospitalized or anything bad happen.  And so when you compare the safety of vitamins and minerals and trace minerals, including copper, compared with standard medical procedures, it’s enormously safe.  And that’s why I’m so excited about nutrition, and the Pig Arthritis formula, and the plant-derived colloidal minerals, including copper.

Now to answer your question specifically, I can tell you this, if you take the plant-derived colloidal copper and the chelated copper like you find in the Pig Arthritis formula, two doses a day, the hair color will begin to come back.  It always starts at the nape of the neck, comes over the crown of the head then down the sides of the head.  And when that happens, almost everybody sees some repair, maybe significant, maybe total repair of the veins and the arteries, by repairing the elastic fibers.  I’m reluctant to give you a milligram dose, because the first thing somebody does is run out and get x number of milligrams of copper and in of itself, a lone free-standing nutrient, you’re not going to be happy with the results because of the lack of absorbability and these other co-factors such as amino acids that have to be there for the copper to work very efficiently, including a trace mineral called molybdenum.  And so, I prefer to tell you to take the Pig Arthritis formula twice a day and if you want to speed up the process, Youngevity has a great product called Ultimate Selenium which has some additional chelated copper in it.  And that’s the direction I would go.

Muscle Cramps/twitches:

Then there's cramps and twitches. You wake up in the middle of the night and your foot is all cramped up around your neck, you say, "Lord, take me from the knee down. I'm not going to make it until morning". We've all experienced that. It's very common.

The one that bothered me when I was a teenager, was twitches. My eyelids used to twitch. I'd look in the mirror and I'd say, "Do people see that? Or is that just my imagination?" Sure enough, I could see it actually twitching. So I showed my Mom and she got panicked, you know. This was during the early '50's, and she grabbed me by the shirt and took me down to this lady doctor, I'll never forget, her name was Mary Jane Skepington. And she had me sit down in my jockey underwear on those little stainless steel stool that you can wrench down and up, and sitting there in my jockey underwear for an hour, she'd look in my eye for 10 or 15 minutes. She couldn't figure it out, so she would go on to another patient and come back. I knew she was lost. Today that would be sexual harassment, sitting there naked for an hour in the doctor's office. But then I knew she was just lost. So I said, "Look, Doc, I'm a man (I was 14 years old), and I play football and I'm on the wrestling team and the weight-lifting team in my highschool. If you have to amputate my eyelids, just do it!" She got the picture. She went in her office, she had a Maybelline Mascara eyelash brush and a little mirror. I kind of looked at her and said, "What's that for?" And she said, "The only thing I can figure out is that your eyelashes have curled back and is tickling your eyeballs and that is what is making your eyelids twitch. So what I want you to do is to retrain your eyelashes with this Maybelline Mascara brush." I said "Wait a minute, Doc, you want me to sit on the bench, during the..., when the team...., you know, and you want me to do this? Oh the team will kill me! You've got to be kidding. So I put on my pants, and I leave, and I go to the school library, and I get out a health book, written by two nurses, and I look up muscle cramps and muscle twitches, and it says "calcium deficiency"! So I knew when I was 14 years old that doctors didn't know anything about nutrition. And it hasn't changed, believe me. Oh, I forgot to tell you how I fixed it. I went home and I grabbed some of those calf pellets, and after eating a handful a day for 3 days they were all gone and never came back. So if you see me with a handful of stuff bulging in my pocket, you know it's calf pellets.

Remember I told you I was going to tell you about PICA. PICA is a funny disease, I'm not talking about the PICA you see on a typewriter, PICA is a disease that farmers know about. In horses it's called cribbing, when they chew on the feed bunk, the wooden feed bunk. You know you had better give them some minerals, otherwise, they would eat that feed bunk. Also, in cattle, dairy cattle especially, where they are losing a lot of minerals through their milk all the time, intensive milking, you'll see them picking up big rocks and chewing on them, or they'll chew on barbed wire, or maybe you'll see them walking down through the path with a deer bone in their mouth, or shingle, that's called PICA. And the good farmer, or husbandman, knows you had better give them some minerals, otherwise they are going to eat the barn or something.

In human beings we see this at funny times, pregnant women are notorious for PICA. The middle of the night they will elbow their husband and say, "Hey, you had better get up. I want some pickles and ice cream." They are craving minerals because that fetus is pulling minerals out of their body, and they need some more minerals. And so it is recognized as a craving for things like sweets and salt, and so forth. You see this in pregnant women. I used to have people come to my practice and they would say, "Doc, do I need to go see a shrink?" I'd say "Why is that?" "Well, I wake up in the middle of the night and I go outside with a spoon and I eat dirt." "No, that's okay. Just make sure it is clean dirt."

Then they say, "My kid sits there with the kitty litter box and he has a spoon and is eating that stuff out of the kitty litter box." And then in housing projects, little kids will eat lead paint off the walls, and they get lead poisoning. They get learning disabilities and bone problems and anemia. We're good, so we spend 5 million dollars to scrape the lead paint off of there and repaint it with latex paint. Now all we had to do was give those kids 10 cents worth of minerals. Be better for them and save us 5 million bucks. It's your cash money, and if we allow them to throw them away, those dollars, it's kind of interesting.

Clinical trials of long-chain omega-3 fatty acid supplementation have demonstrated beneficial effects less consistently in patients with inflammatory bowel disease than in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Although two randomized controlled trials of fish oil supplementation in Crohn’s disease patients reported no benefit (105, 106), a significantly higher proportion of Crohn’s disease patients supplemented with 2.7 g/day of EPA + DHA remained in remission over a 12-month period than those given a placebo (107). Three randomized controlled trials of EPA + DHA supplementation (4.2-5.4 g/day for 3-12 months) in ulcerative colitis patients reported significant improvement in at least one outcome measure, including weight gain, decreased corticosteroid use, improved disease activity scores and improved histology scores (108-110). In contrast, supplementation of ulcerative colitis patients in remission with 5.1 g/day of EPA + DHA did not significantly alter the incidence of relapse over a 2-year period (111).

Chrohn's Disease (Regional enteritis): is a chronic infiltration or invasion of defensive WBCs and "macrophages" (special scavenger cells) into the terminal ileum (last portion of small intestine that joins with the colon).  Several theories are currently in vogue as to the cause of Crohn's Disease including infection with T.B. like organisms (similar to Johne's Disease in camels!!!); of interest here is the high incidence of Crohn's Disease in Minnesota compared with all other areas of the U.S.  A second and perhaps more realistic cause is a food allergy (i.e. wheat, milk), do a pulse test and practice rigorous avoidance program of any identified allergens --this will prevent acute (sudden) attacks and actually result in reversal of the Crohn's changes to normal.  Compare this with cortisone and surgery that the 'orthodox' medics would have you choose!!!!
Treatment of Crohn's Disease includes a high fiber diet (be sure to do a pulse test to be sure not to use the fiber you are allergic to!), folic acid at 5-10mg t.i.d., vit A at 300,000 IU/day as beta carotene, B-12 at 1,000 mcg/day (best by injection in this disease), vit. C to bowel tolerance if it can be tolerated.  Calcium citrate (Osteo FX) and magnesium glycinate (Osteo Mag) at 2,000 and 1,000 mg per day(don't forget the base line supplement program here), selenium at 300 mcg t.i.d., chromium at 75mcg t.i.d. and zinc at 50mg t.i.d.  Autoimmune urine therapy can be very useful.

Omega-3 and Antioxidant Combo Could Ease Inflammation

A combination of Omega-3 fatty acids and the flavonoid quercitrin (quercetin) may work to reduce inflammation. (Just Omega 3 works for me! - Kingmaker).

Omega-3 fatty acids have previously been linked to a reduction in markers of inflammation, particularly in relation to Cardiovascular Disease. For gut health however some studies have reported that omega-3 supplementation may not be beneficial since this can impair the colonic antioxidant system.

This could be remedied, say researchers behind the new study, by including an antioxidant compound, such as the flavonoid quercitrin along with the omega-3s. The new study is published online in the Journal "Clinical Nutrition" (doi: 10.1016/j.clnu. 2005.12.009). Adding quercitrin to omega-3s may have an added advantage of improving stability of the oils which are susceptible to degradation from oxygen, heat and light.

The second key to success is to think about:
1- A thyroid hormone utilization problem
The 24 hours urine T3 and T4 tests are the most reliable thyroid hormone utilization tests and more accurate than the T3 and T4 blood tests. The 24 hours urine T3 and T4 tests reflect the thyroid hormone utilization rate. The T3 and T4 blood test indicate how much hormone is available only. One can also approximate the thyroid hormone utilization rate with the basal temperature test. The basal temperature is the morning temperature measured in the mouth at awaking. A morning (at awaking and still in bed) mouth temperature under 97.3 F°( 36.2 C°) indicate a lower than normal thyroid hormone utilization rate. Normal temperatures are between 97.8 F° (36.5 C°) and 98.2 F° (36.7 C°). Temperatures higher than 98.2 F° (36.7 C°). indicate hyperthyroidy. Since ovulation induces a surge in the basal temperature, women should verify their thyroid hormone utilization within the 2 weeks following the onset of menstruation. Thyroid hormone utilization is reduced by sugar and starch excess in the diet and stimulated by selenium and long chain n-3 EFAs.
2 - A low adrenal hormone condition.
It may be useful to verify the adrenal hormone utilization rate. The most reliable tests are the 24 hours urine adrenal hormone output test, or the cortisol saliva test.
3- A mixture of both.
The third key to success is to improve the diet:

together they my constitute a serious health hazard in people with an autoimmune condition.
